The video compact disc, more commonly known as the VCD, revolutionised the way we store and watch video. It was possible to store video digitally, and the format was compact and portable enough to be used widely. Next came DVDs, or digital video discs, which allowed for even better quality and more storage space!
There was a time when people would browse through their tv guide and wait eagerly for a movie to be shown. Today, most movies are available in amazing quality on DVD! Home viewing of movies is amazingly accessible and easy today.
DVDs were received with tones of enthusiasm as they offered huge storage space. But technology advances very rapidly, and in no time, something better would come along. High Definition DVD and Blu Ray are the two popular formats in video today.
HD DVD players have the distinct advantage of being able to play older Digital Video Discs. This makes it an attractive option for most people, because it doesn't make their DVD collection obsolete!
Blu Ray is a more expensive and time-taking technology, but is catching on quite quickly. DVDs came as a pleasant surprise with respect to their storage capacity of 15 GB, but Blu Ray Discs have even more storage space than DVDs!
