Online Discount Mall for DVDs

Invented in 1990s by Sony and Philips, the DVD is a relatively old technology by industry standards. In fact, a new optical storage disc called the Blu-Ray is said to be superior in many ways. Still, the DVD is the unquestioned market leader with over twenty billion pounds in worldwide sales in 2009.

Although the numbers sound impressive, sales have actually been on a downward trend for over a year now. Last year’s figures where off by more than ten percent and industry insiders are predicting further declines.

Now, it would be easy enough to blame the recession, the only problem is that the numbers at the box office actually increased over the same period, which tells us that something else is going on. The simple fact is that since most homes in the Western World (about 80%) now own a DVD player, growth has predictably slowed. For this reason and many more, it is possible to find discount dvd online. (more...)

Are DVDs Destined To Be Assigned To History?

Industry insiders have been in a nearly perpetual state of panic since they learned that global DVD sales were off by more than ten percent last year. The industry, which earned over twenty billion pounds in 2009, has been on the decline for more than a year now.

Of course, the global recession has had a hand in falling numbers, but box office receipts over the same time have actually increased, which leads many to question whether the DVD is coming to the end of its days. After all, Digital Video Discs (DVDs) have been around for more than fifteen years and new technologies have recently come on the scene.

Not to mention the fact that DVD players are a staple in over eighty percent of European and American homes. In economic terms, this means that the device is nearly ubiquitous, which means that growth must inevitably slow. Though there are some areas for growth, like in Rome apartments the modern DVD player appears to be nearing the end of its run. (more...)

DVDs Were As Popular As Ringtones

Is the DVD industry in trouble? In recent years they have surrendered some of their profits to the cinema. Believe it or not, there was a time when people debated which would be bigger, box office receipts or DVD sales? And for a spell this was a legitimate question. But over the past three or four years, DVDs have hit the proverbial wall.

In 2009, DVD sales were off by more than ten percent globally, as media trends tend to suggest a growth in digital, online movie rentals. The cinema also experienced a grand renaissance, as box office receipts rose by more than fifteen percent.

What does this mean for DVDs? Well, they certainly aren't ringtones The truth is that the DVD industry has been in decline since new technologies like Blu-Ray have started to gain acceptance. Now, these new technologies still pale by comparison to DVD sales, which currently stand at about twenty-billion pounds. (more...)

The Evolution of DVDs

Over time technology has a way of making our lives easier. When the television was introduced, it totally changed the lives of citizens. Instead of sitting by the radio and listening to the news headlines, they could now watch it live in pictures.

Television gradually developed to where we could watch colour pictures and VHS tapes. Not long ago we were introduced to a new video format called DVDs, which simplified the process and got rid of rewinding and fast forwarding VHS tapes.

DVD technology increased even further when we were able to autosave to DVD As with all technologies, DVD’s quickly become outdated. The new technology that is sweeping across the world is Blu-Ray high definition discs. (more...)

The Future of the DVD

Though the DVD is still the most popular way to watch movies at home, the industry has been in decline for several years now. Last year alone sales were off by more than ten percent and the prospects of future growth have dimmed.

There are several reasons for this. The first is that the DVD is a relatively old technology. Introduced in 1995, it has spread around the world and has achieved incredible success in just about every modern nation. In fact, more than eighty-five percent of the homes in North American and the UK have a DVD player.

Now, those are impressive numbers, but they are also a clear indication of a slowdown in future growth. It is also a fact that a new technology called Blu-Ray is superior to the DVD in many ways. Not only do the discs store more information, but they also provide better picture quality. That is why many Amsterdam rentals are switching from DVD to Blu-Ray players in their units. It's time to stand-by and see this industry blackmail us into purchasing new technology - yet again! (more...)

In recent years the use of 3G Internet has become huge and this is yet another blow to the world of DVD Sales. I was able to download the film in HD Quality directly to my laptop for $4.99, however you can download this to the iphone for much less! For me downloading was a huge advantage. I was able to leave work and go directly to the train station and not head to the busy high street! This also enabled me to got home on the earlier train. As I pondered on my final few minutes of my journey this lead me to think that Digital Downloads has the power to end dvd sales. The majority of New DVD Players now have a USB Port, enabling us to transfer from our laptop to a memory stick with the drag and drop movement! Any film I Have bought in the last 12 months has been a download. Even my collection of dvd have now been stored away after I converted them to digital. Anyone below the age of 30 that I know are all downloading their music and films. As this goes by this is sure to leave DVD Sales in turmoil! Large companies that rely on dvd sales must now think hard and fast to ensure their DVDs and in turn companies are not left on the shelves!

The Rise of DVD Rental Websites

Over the past few years sales of DVDs have declined for the first time since they came to market in the mid-nineties. Last year alone sales were off by nearly ten percent, and while the recession might be partially to blame, there are several other factors affecting sales.

First and foremost, the DVD is a relatively old technology. As we mentioned, it was introduced in 1995, and since that time other superior technologies that also rely on optical discs have become available. Probably the most popular of these is the Blu-Ray. These discs not only store more information, they also provide a better picture.

Then there is the fact that sales of DVD players are approaching saturation levels. What we mean is that more than eighty percent of homes in the UK have a DVD player, which leaves little room for growth. Not to mention the incredible growth of DVD rental websites . (more...)

Movie and Music Sites for Less

For years now consumers have recognised the many benefits of doing their shopping online. Not only is it more convenient, but goods on the internet are also more affordable than ones purchased at retail stores. The reason for this is simple: online or virtual stores are not made of brick and mortar, which means that they don't pay for rent, gas or electricity. It also means that they can pass all of those savings on to the consumer.

In this article we are going to discuss two of the most popular sites for internet shoppers - movie and music sites . Because movies (DVDs) and music (CDs) are small and lightweight, shipping costs tend to be low. As a result, online stores can often beat the prices of the retail chains.

Though it is true that DVD sales have been slipping of late, on the internet sales are as healthy as they have ever been. One place where consumers have come to expect great deals are at movie and music clubs. (more...)

A Photo on a Disk, Whatever Next?

There are many reasons why people are looking for a reputable UK photo scanning service and one of the most obvious is lack of space. It is now possible to transfer documents or photographs to a DVD which can be stored away in a fraction of the space that is required for the physical versions.

As far as photographs are concerned the quality of them, when they have been transferred to a DVD, can be very good as long as care is taken during the scanning process and a reputable service will ensure that this is the case.

The price can vary and one factor is the quality of the actual DVD and the type of scanning machine that is being used but even the most basic service should suffice for everyday requirements. (more...)

Making a Pop Video With DVDs

If you are lucky enough to be in the position where a music producer is interested in recording you, it is very likely that you are going to need to find out about making a pop video in this way. DVDs still represent an obvious consideration here and this technology still accounts for the most common method of purchasing recorded music in hard copy.

If you are not able to find a music producer to undertake all of this work on your behalf, you really are going to have a hard job of making a pop video and transferring it to DVD yourself. This is possible, but could prove to be exceptionally costly; especially if you are not able to sell the DVDs once they have been produced.

Today, when there are numerous shows on the television which portray the rags to riches lifestyle of nobodies suddenly becoming someone overnight, it is no wonder that there is a massive demand for wannabe pop stars to make their own videos. It is therefore important to sound out your talent before committing to any personal expense. (more...)

The Forgotten Marvel That is 0800 Numbers

In the age of mobile telephones and internet the humble landline has been forgotten. But there is still at least one big advantage of having a landline phone. This advantage is being able to use 0800 numbers.

0800 numbers have been around for many, many years and are favoured by many companies who want to make it simple for their customers to get in contact with them. These types of numbers are free phone, which means that there is no cost to phone them.

Well, certainly no cost from a landline phone that is. You may have noticed if you have ever phoned 0800 numbers from your mobile that you get a message saying that you will be charged for the call. This can be fine if you are on a contract phone with plenty of free minutes (where the plan includes calls to 0800 numbers but there are not many of these) and do not intend to be on the call for that long. Video Storage Discs

The video compact disc, more commonly known as the VCD, revolutionised the way we store and watch video. It was possible to store video digitally, and the format was compact and portable enough to be used widely. Next came DVDs, or digital video discs, which allowed for even better quality and more storage space!

There was a time when people would browse through their tv guide and wait eagerly for a movie to be shown. Today, most movies are available in amazing quality on DVD! Home viewing of movies is amazingly accessible and easy today.

DVDs were received with tones of enthusiasm as they offered huge storage space. But technology advances very rapidly, and in no time, something better would come along. High Definition DVD and Blu Ray are the two popular formats in video today. (more...)
